Valentine's Day is almost here!
I love Valentine's Day and it's not for the romance, the flowers, the candy, the ridiculous "let's see how much stuff I can buy to show my love" kinda stuff.
It's the memories.
Every Valentine's Day the school office was always filled with lovey dovey, "romantic" gifts for girlfriends and boyfriends, everyone trying to outdo the other. Of course, like any silly girl, I wanted one of those lovey dovey gifts. Well, I got them! EVERY year! It was usually beautiful roses in a vase with a card that said - from your secret admirer. And, EVERY year my friend Jessica and I would try to figure out who it was from. Maybe that guy from science class. The cute boy in the lunchroom.
Nope. (Don't be too jealous Jessica :))
It was from my Dad.
I didn't figure that out until years later.
They were from my wonderful dad who wanted me to feel special.
And, I did.

When I would get home from school I would walk into a house full of yummy smells. My mom would lovingly bake each of us 5 children and my dad our favorite dessert. 6 desserts!! That's love.
Thanks Mom and Dad for teaching me what real love should be about. Probably one of the most important lessons a girl could learn.

I was just thinking about your Valentine's Day surprises! Oh, high school, how I don't miss you.
So fun!! I didn't like valentine's day usually as a teenager for that reason, not fun to not get something from a special someone.
That's so cute that the flowers were from your dad. I definitely do not miss the days of hoping that you would get that dumb little slip of paper saying you had something in the office. Looking back, I am not so sure why I cared so much but I did.
I love your moms tradition of making you your favorite dessert. Is that something you are going to start in your family. I like the idea-it's cute. Anyways! I don't have to many valentines memories-I guess it wasn't a big holiday in our house.
I just remember me and Dave started dating not to long before valentines day and that was my first boyfriend on valentines day and now he is still my valentine-which is pretty exciting!
Okay, I just love that little Andrew's face! So cute!
Your pictures are killing me! I haven't taken Carlie for any professional pictures yet, do you know why? Any place I look at and think, "Kristen could do way better than that" and can't bring myself to make the appointment. You do such a beautiful job, I really miss you being close!
I hated waiting for that stupid little piece of paper too, Kim. And I never got one. Oh well, looking back I don't think I missed out on anything. I had nothing in common with the boys in high school.
I haven't been able to figure out why I love Valentines so much but I do. When I read your post it finally made sense. The memories from my childhood are what make it so special. thanks for the reminder!
Those are such cool memories and traditions!!
What a beautiful thing your dad did for you, Kristin! That got me a little teary.
I love valentine's day, too. I try to make it a day where everyone I encounter feels loved, especially those I know who do not have a 'special someone'.
