Catching Up . . . . .

Haven't had much time for blogging lately.

Even as I type, the newest addition is stirring.

What a month!!

We had a wonderful fourth of july full of family, food, and fun.

The boys had a blast playing in the pool with their cousin at Great Grandma's house.

This kid is so funny and soooo adorable.

The boys had fun with some poppers grandpa got for them.

 

We made quite the mess.

Now we are just trying to adjust to this new little person in our lives.

While he is sweet, adorable, and so cuddly . . . . he is a newborn baby.  Ha ha

You forget how much work and time they take.

I'm pretty sure I haven't worn anything but pajamas these last couple weeks and I have discovered a great new diet - never having time to eat because one of my three monkies needs something. 

Sheesh!

The boys adore baby brother and they actually fight over him.

Is that a good thing??

 Even though it is hard work with three crazy boys, being a mommy is the best job in the world!! (Gotta keep reminding myself ;) )

Welcome to the world!!!

He is here!!

Matthew Barry Garlick came into this world on July 10, 2012 at 10:47 weighing 8lbs 10 ounces and is 21 inches long.

He is a darling, beautiful, amazing, wonderful miracle in our lives and we are so happy he has come to our family.

I thought I would share the whole story of how he arrived.

I am usually not an "I love labor stories!" kind of person either.

This is mostly for my own remembrance.

I woke up on the morning of the 10th feeling wet (I know. TMI). 

I wondered if my water had broken, but never having had my water break naturally I figured I was probably fine.  The hospital we were going to was 40 minutes away so I was not anxious to rush over there only to be turned away.  I decided to wait for contractions.

In the meantime, I held a meeting with the Beehive girls from church, took Christopher to his therapy, and basically went on with my day.

Davin called at about 2:30 and asked me to please call the doctor and make sure I was okay.

I reluctantly called and explained that I woke up a little wet but felt fine. 

The receptionist said "Come to the hospital right away!"

So, we picked up Christopher from therapy and headed to Idaho Falls.

It was strange because I felt fine and even silly for rushing up there.

Well, when I got there they tested me and found out that my water had indeed broken.

I was staying!!!

They put me on some pitocin, gave me my epidural, and my parents and my brother and sister in law (the one with the same due date) came and entertained me until it was time.  At 10:47 he was born.  My water contained a little bit of meconium, so the NICU came to make sure he didn't have any stuck in his lungs.  He turned out fine.

It was a wonderful wonderful experience and he is sweet and beautiful.

We were surprised at how big he was, how much hair he had, and that he happens to have two toes on his left foot that are webbed (WHAAAT???).  We are hoping he is the next Michael Phelps ;)

This is where it got really really strange.

The next day in the hospital they put Matthew on an oxygen level monitor and decided that his oxygen levels were not good and he needed to go to the NICU.

They sent him over there and hooked him up to a better machine and he did perfectly.

The doctor decided to keep him there though just to make sure.

The next day they discharged me from the hospital telling me that my baby was coming home as well.

So, we cleared out of our room and walked over to the NICU to pick him up.

The nurse started to work on discharging Matthew and we were all in a very happy, excited mood.

Then, the doctor came in and asked what was going on.

Apparently there had been miscommunication and Matthew was NOT going home until 10:00 that night.

Ummmmmmm.  So what do WE do?  We have no room to go to, I am a very sore, very tired woman who gave birth hours ago, who is not supposed to be walking around, and we have to just "hang out" at the hospital until 10:00!!!

So, I headed to the waiting room and hoped that they could find us a room where we could be with the baby and I could lie down.

Well, they sent Matthew back to the regular nursery and asked if I wanted to come sit in a room with him.  They took me to this dark room full of empty nursery beds and supplies and a very hard chair to sit on with the baby.  SOOOOO strange.

Davin and I decided that I couldn't sit there very long so we put the baby with the rest of the nursery and headed home to pick up some things.

Fortunately, when we got back they had found us a small room in the NICU for us to wait until 10:00 rolled around. 

We were both so exhausted by the time that came and we could not have gotten out of that hospital any faster.

Don't get me wrong.  The hospital  is a great hospital, but the miscommunication that went on was horrible! 
Oh well, maybe we will laugh about it one day.

We are so grateful for this beautiful little boy. 
We are grateful for a healthy delivery and a healthy baby.
 We feel so blessed to have him in our home.

The babies are coming! . . . . .

Any day now I am going to pop! 

Contractions have been driving me crazy and I am sooooo ready for this little boy to make his appearance. 

 My sister in law's due date got moved to the SAME day as mine so we are waiting for two sweet babies to come to our family. 

 How exciting is that!! 

Next time I am on this blog I will be a mom of three. 

 Am I ready for this???

Summer . . . . . so far

Davin went to New Jersey with his parents and all his siblings to meet his sister in laws family. 

They spent a couple days in New York City and had a blast! 

I was so sad I couldn't be there, but I am fairly confident that they would have had to push my pregnant self around in a wagon the whole time. 

They all were pretty warn out from ALLLLL that walking. 

So glad they all had fun together (hard not to have fun with his awesome family!).

The boys got some fish. 

Something Christopher has been wanting for a long time. 

He loves animals and enjoys taking care of things.

 

Andy's fish died the second day.  He ran into my room and said, "Mom, my fishy is out of batteries!" 

Sure enough. 

He was completely out.  Ha ha.  Poor Andy. 

They are enjoying Christopher's fish (Rosie) and do a good job helping me clean and feed her.

We have loved having a few good days of weather. 

Eating peanut butter sandwiches on the porch in their underwear.  So glad we have awesome neighbors who don't mind :) 

I bought them a cheap swimming pool and some water guns the day it got up to 95. 

They had so much fun! 

Then, Idaho decided to remind me that I live IN Idaho and there was  a rain and wind storm that night.  Despite putting things on the pool to weigh it down,  those ridiculous winds blew our pool far far far away.  Not a pool in sight.  Grrrrrr. 

 What a shock that was the next day.  Andy is still searching our yard for that pool :(

Christopher has been doing some awesome things at therapy. 

He has started horse therapy!!! 

So exciting! 

He really really loves it and these beautiful animals are helping him with anxiety, balance, self awareness, and so much more.  (sorry for the blurry picture.  it was taken from one of his therapist's cell phones) 

His physical therapist also spent months and months teaching him how to ride a bike and then to ride a bike without training wheels.  He is doing so great!! 

We feel so blessed to receive therapy. 

I know plenty of Asperger kids who never learn to ride a bike. 

We never take for granted the simple things that Christopher is achieving. 

Such an amazing lesson for any parent. 

The boys have so much fun riding outside with their little neighbor buddy.

Hello Summer!!

School is out for the summer!!

I can't believe how fast this year went.

Christopher was so excited for summer break.

His class did a little end of the school year musical, "The Little Red Hen", and it was adorable.

Christopher was a cowboy.

They gave out awards afterward to a few parents who were the most involved during the school year.

I was shocked when they called my name.  Me?  Most involved?

I guess when your kid's uncertain future depends on YOU you have to be involved.  Ha ha. 
I am grateful that he has made me an involved parent even if it can be overwhelming. 
What a great, growing year it has been for him. 
He is totally worth it.

I thought it would be a hard transition for Chris to say goodbye to kindergarten, but I think he had an easier time with it than I did.

He said goodbye to his wonderful teacher, told her he would miss her and that he would come say hi to her and give her a hug every day next year.

We headed to grandma's house for a sleepover which was what he wanted to do to celebrate (Daddy was on a trip to NYC).

That's when my body said -Phew! This stressful school year is over and you can get deathly ill now.

I had a cold, horrible horrible cough, fever, chills, and even woke up with my eyes swollen shut.  ALLLL while 8 months pregnant. 

My heavens!! 

I am still in recovery mode.

However, even through all that yucky sickness I had to smile at my beautiful boys, finally reunited after a long school year, and tons of therapy.  They are glued together and couldn't be happier.  Andy is in heaven and is so worn out from all the playing. 

Can't wait to tell you about all our summer adventures!

Things We Love Lately

This has been such a busy month. 

School is over this week and I finally have everything set up for next year for Christopher.  Ha ha.

Meetings are done, all the paperwork is in order, 504 plan is ready,  new teacher has been hand picked, and we are ready :)

I got a new calling in my church.  I am now in the Young Women's Presidency which means I get to work with the young women in our church, which means BUSY! 

Baby Garlick #3 is getting soooo big.  I really feel like I am going to pop and I still have about a month and a half left.  Yikes.

As this month flashed before my eyes, I did notice some things that we loved :

I loved my Mother's Day.

I always do.

I have such beautiful children that bless my life in sooo many ways.

My wonderful husband got me some beautiful flowers.

So lovely.

I love that  the baby's room is coming along!!

I got practically everything at the thrift store and if not at the thrift store - on sale!

It's been fun.

I love that my sister in law is having her baby at the same time as me.  So fun!

 We threw her a baby shower. 

It turned out so cute and hopefully she had fun.

I have THE best sister in laws in the world.

I am so lucky.

Congrats Shawn and Anna!  Can't wait to meet my new niece.

Davin and I have love love love loved the Sherlock Series on PBS.

We just finished the last episode of this season.

We looked up when the next season will start and it may not be for a whole year!!!

I think we both almost started crying.

It is such a fabulous, well done show.
